A Year in Review ...As 2025 comes to a close, The Two Hundred Club of Union County reflects with gratitude on a year of meaningful service, engagement, and steadfast support of the uniformed protectors who stand on the front lines of our communities. We began the year with our annual Chiefs Holiday Reception in January, thoughtfully scheduled to respect the holiday season, bringing together more than two dozen police and fire chiefs, senior public safety leaders, and Club members to welcome the new year.
During the year, the Club proudly reinstated the Because We Care Award for the Union County Fire Academy, while continuing its long-standing tradition of recognizing the top graduate of the Stamler Police Academy. Each honoree received a plaque, a formal letter from the President, and a monetary award recognizing their achievement. Our monthly meetings were distinguished by presentations organized by Prosecutor William Daniel, with contributions from Dr. Harvey A. Barnwell, Chief of Detectives, and Deputy Chief Jose Vendas, all of the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, who provided in-depth and authoritative insight into cold case investigations. Meetings were also hosted at off-site locations such as the Stamler Police Academy and the Union County Fire Academy, offering valuable opportunities for member engagement and learning. In the spring, we hosted our annual Valor Awards Ceremony. Since 1968, The Two Hundred Club has honored more than 550 police officers, firefighters, and State Troopers whose actions represent the highest acts of courage, sacrifice, and valor in the performance of duty. Valor remains the Club’s most solemn and distinguished honor. This year, we recognized eight outstanding police officers from across Union County, representing the Elizabeth Police Department, Kean University Police Department, Rahway Police Department, and Union Township Police Department. In addition, four scholarships were awarded to the academically deserving children of our uniformed protectors, reinforcing one of the Club’s core commitments: ensuring that the families of those who risk their lives in service to others are never overlooked or forgotten. We also posthumously honored Firefighter Marques Hudson, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty, providing immediate assistance to his family while honoring his legacy of service. Throughout the year, The Two Hundred Club maintained an active presence through its participation in the Union County Police Chiefs Golf Outing and the New Jersey State Police Memorial at the State Police Museum. In March, the Club also attended the 40th Anniversary Memorial in Plainfield honoring Officer Abigail Powlett, the first female law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty in the State of New Jersey on March 15, 1985. The Club’s leadership was further recognized through honors including the Union County Lifetime Achievement Award and the Honorary Silver Card presented by the Union County PBA Conference. The Two Hundred Club of Union County operates on a membership basis and derives its financial support from the dues and ongoing annual contributions of its valued members. This support allows the Club to honor valor, remember the fallen, and provide meaningful assistance to families in times of need. As we look ahead to 2026, we invite you to continue your support by renewing your membership, sponsoring a new member, or making a contribution in furtherance of the Club’s mission. From all of us at The Two Hundred Club, thank you for your continued support and commitment. We wish you and your loved ones a joyful and safe holiday season and look forward to all we can accomplish together in the year ahead.
